The Z’am Steg brewery and its craft beers
This is the story of the Z’AM STEG brewery and its beers …
On 17 December 2014, Nadir Valzer’s Z’am Steg was born in Alagna Valsesia, with the official offer of his first labels: Stardust and Red Giant, one amber and one red. In a short time, the new “Nadir’s beer” met the favor of Valsesians and by the end of the year it was already present in various bars and inns in the town.
Thus the production is enriched: in May 2015 Black Hole makes its entrance; around March 2016, Z’am Steg presents Fumè and later others.
A little over two years after the start of the business, the new version of the brewery opens: Z’am Steg, with its own production plant, is now located in Mollia, a small town a few kilometers from Alagna Valsesia.
Inside the brewery there is an area dedicated to the sale where it is possible to taste the various range of beers produced on tap, which, thanks to the water coming from the highest glaciers in Europe, improves in quality, digestibility and lightness. In the high altitude shelters of Monte Rosa, mountaineers and freeriders quench their thirst with the Z’am Steg beer which is affirmed, in effect, as “the beer of Monte Rosa” or rather, to say it in the ancient language of the Walser Z’am Stg “ds Gourner Biar”

FUME’: Red beer – 50cl bottle – Alcoholic Grade: 5.5% volFumé is a craft red beer with a beautiful deep red color.
The light smoky aroma leaves a pleasant, reminiscent flavor on the palate the scent of mountain cheeses
and smoked cured meats, typical of the mountains.
Centuries ago malts were mainly dried over open flame.
Not being protected from smoke, the malt and consequently the first beers had a smoky character, then considered unpleasant.
In the era of the industrial revolution, a new technique was introduced
which involved the use of particular ovens called “Klin”, which used indirect heat.
The smoky character became less and less common until it almost completely disappeared from the brewing world,
when in the nineteenth century the ancient technique was completely replaced by the modern one.
The Fumé red craft beer proposes the taste of the past thanks to the use of dried malts over a beech wood flame.
